Edgar Lee
Portwood
Jun 7, 1950 — Jun 8, 2026
Edgar Lee Portwood, Sr. was born on June 7, 1950, in Pascola, Missouri. He passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2026. He was 76 years of age.
Edgar "Pops" Portwood was a man who found joy in the simple blessings of life, the love of his family, and the friendships he built throughout the years. A proud United States Navy veteran, he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970 and carried that same spirit of dedication and strength into every aspect of his life.
Edgar enjoyed fishing, riding back roads, listening to the radio, collecting knives, working in his shed, cooking, and gardening. Above all, he cherished raising his children and spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons that will be remembered for generations. He was also known for his love of a good Coca-Cola and the comfort of gathering with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edgar Portwood Jr. ("Boog"); his youngest son, Eddie B. Portwood ("Baby Boy"); his mother, Lillian Parker Portwood; his father, Ben Portwood; and his sister, Roselle Portwood Merx.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Diane Portwood of Wolf Bayou, Missouri; his children, James Edward Portwood of Hayti, MO., Leighann Portwood of Caruthersville, MO., and JoAnna Lee (David) McMenamy of Corpus Christi, Texas; his brother, James B. "Jay" Portwood of Caruthersville, MO.; along with 9 grandchildren; Breanna (Anthony Treadwell, Jr.), Brooklynn (Terrence Cranford, Jr.) Portwood, Ally McMenamy, Lillie and Leslie McMeans, Parker McMenamy, Paris Portwood, Serenity Portwood, and Hunter. And a host of extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.
Though he will be deeply missed, Edgar's legacy lives on through the family he loved, the stories he shared, and the countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
