Gerry Walter "Punkin" Thompson passed away at the River Oaks Care Center in Steele, Missouri, on Friday, April 10, 2026. He was born in Hayti, Missouri, on January 28, 1950. The son of the late Ross and Matilda (Turner) Thompson.

Punkin, as he was commonly known, was a graduate of South Pemiscot with the class of 1968. He started working on the farm, and that was the perfect job for him. He enjoyed working on the farm and going for country rides, looking at the crops. He was a quiet man, enjoying the simplicity of life, like taking walks with his little dog Willa.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Matilda Thompson, 3 Brothers, Wayne, Joe & Lee Edward Thompson, and 2 sisters, June Hunter and Edna Everly.

Those left to cherish his memory are Gary Thompson and his fiancé Kelsey of Steele, Missouri

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele, Missouri, with brother Doug Wahls officiating. The visitation will be from 10-11 on the same day, with the funeral service following the visitation. Pallbearers will be Aaron Horton, James Hastings, Chad Hager, Greg Hamlett, Logan Puckett, and Bill Clark. Interment will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, Missouri.
