Julia Ann Barnett (Adkisson)
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7 ESV
Julia Ann Barnett Adkisson was born on September 4, 1942, in Cooter, MO, and she was raised in Caruthersville, MO. She graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1960, and she lived in Clinton, MS, for 55 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilton and Cecil Jordan, and her sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Larry Griffin.
She was married to James E. Adkisson for 57 years and 8 months. They raised 3 children, and they have 4 grandchildren.
She has one daughter, Kimberly Moore (husband, Daniel) and two sons, Scott (wife, Lira) Adkisson, and Chad Adkisson.
Her four grandchildren are Jordan Vining, Savannah Moore, Presley Adkisson, and Bailey Adkisson.
Her nephews are Ron (wife, Lisa) Griffin of Caruthersville, MO, and Jeff (wife, Misty) Griffin of Jackson, MO.
Prior to retiring, she worked for Digital Equipment Computers and Sims Prosthetics where she received many awards over the years for her accomplishments and dedication to her career.
She was also very active in the Jaycees/ Jaycettes, a community service organization, and she held not only local chapter offices in Clinton, but she was also the Regional VP. She worked with several governors of the state of MS on community service projects and served on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Prevention of Blindness.
She loved Jesus Christ, her Savior, and she lifted many up in prayer daily throughout her life. She grew up attending Temple Baptist Church.
Her family was key to her life, and she always put their needs before her own. Spending time with family during the holidays, especially Thanksgiving, was something she looked forward to each year.
She loved Christmas…the decorations, the music, the whole season! Making Christmas Eve and Christmas Day extra special for her family was always a priority for her.
Also, she took great joy from spending time with her grandbabies, who affectionately called her Mimi. She was so proud of them, and she enjoyed going on vacation with them when she was younger, and later in life, hearing about what they were doing and seeing photos of events in their lives.
Her favorite things to do were sit by the pool, read, watch HGTV (especially Hometown) and play word games. She was an online Scrabble and Crossword puzzle champion!
She loved birds and butterflies, and she was very proud of her ceramic bird collection.
