Stanley
Smith
Dec 29, 1955 — Dec 22, 2022
Stanley (Uncle Stan, Mr. Stan, Nighthawk, Donahue, Stan the Man) Smith, was born in Hayti, Missouri on December 29, 1955, to Barbara Smith (Hill). On December 22, 2022, Stan passed away as the result of an automobile accident. He was 66 years old.
Stan attended Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. He loved Sunday School and frequently attended until March 2020 when COVID-19 rocked the world. Stan loved his family and those close friends that became his family. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Stan served in the US Army and US Navy. He worked at Wal-Mart for over ten years. His last employment was with Hayti R-2 school district custodial staff where he was able to pour into the lives of the youth he worked with and around.
Stan loved baseball and was a DIEHARD St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was able to attend several games during his lifetime and relished the opportunities when he was able to take a friend or nephew to attend a game. He loved his Hayti Indians and frequently traveled to watch them play. Stan also loved watching Jeopardy with his great nephews, doing crosswords, and working on puzzles. If you ever stopped by, you could see a puzzle in the works on the table or in the process of being hung on the wall!
Stan was preceded in death by his mother, (Barbara Hill), stepfather, (Aaron (Coonman) Hill), and brothers, (Kenneth Smith and Michael Smith.)
Stan leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter: Hope Barnhill (DeAndre Blanchard), of Memphis, Tennessee, one granddaughter, Phoebe Mosby, of Memphis, Tennessee, three sisters; Thelma Cooper, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gynett Johnson (Richard), Hayti, Missouri, Donna Maxie (Jerome), Pooler, Georgia, one brother; Kermit Smith (Isla), Florence, South Carolina, one aunt, Margaret Purdy, Lawton, Oklahoma, one uncle, Macon Smith Jr. (Sammie), Yuma, Arizona, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Special thanks to his cousin, Douglas Edwards, and close friends Rose Williams, Rickey Tipler, and Kevin (Pike) Franks.
Celebration of Life services will be held on April 1, 2023, at 12 noon, at the Hayti School multi-purpose building.
John W. German Funeral Home in charge of services.
